Education and Teaching Master Degrees

Posted in Education on 15.02.12

Teachers or teaching students who want to advance their education can pursue either a masters in education (MEd) or a Masters in Teaching (MIT) degree.

An MEd is best for education students who may want to do more than teach in the future. For example, students who pursue an MEd can become members of the school administration or even do education-related research.

MIT programs are best for teachers who crave hands-on experience. Common MIT degrees are the Master of Arts in Special Education and the Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction. MIT courses are based on classroom settings instead of educational policies and administration.

Many fifth year graduate students choose to round out their education-focused curriculum with an MIT. This course also requires one semester of student teaching. Graduates who have either an MEd or an MIT qualify for a higher salary than those who only have a bachelor degree.
